Orford Ness
I could almost stretch to calling this a ‘photo-essay’, but I think that might be pushing the boundaries of acceptable degrees of pretentiousness. What it is really is a collection of photos, along a theme, with some writing. Danger! Pentax LX, 50/1.7, Fuji Velvia, Polariser Into the Marshes. Pentax LX, 50/1.7, Fuji Velvia, Polariser Orford Ness is a special place. In case...

Lenses: Primes or Zooms?
Just something I was thinking about today. Here’s my take on an old question: Zooms are flexible. The 15-85mm I have for my digital SLR is a handy sort of thing to have around, and I’ve even taken a few photos I like with it, beyond the sort of everyday stuff I tend to use digital for lately. Primes are versatile. Honestly, for most things, a fast standard lens (40-55mm in 35mm...

sarahnb asked: Woo indeed! Looking forward to seeing those, then. And yep, haha, orange Trip. I bought it from a place that refurbishes them, to make sure I had one that worked (I wouldn't trust myself with fixing a camera, just yet). So I thought I may as well go for a cool coloured one, since it was a bit more expensive and there was more of a chance of randomly coming across a black one from somewhere...

nycshawnphotos-deactivated20110 asked: "If it’s worth shooting, it’s worth shooting on film.
If it’s worth shooting on film, it’s worth shooting on medium format.
If it’s worth shooting on medium format, it’s worth shooting on slide film.
If it’s worth shooting on slide film, it’s worth shooting on Velvia."

I love this! Have not used Velvia...

A thought process...
If it’s worth shooting, it’s worth shooting on film. If it’s worth shooting on film, it’s worth shooting on medium format. If it’s worth shooting on medium format, it’s worth shooting on slide film. If it’s worth shooting on slide film, it’s worth shooting on Velvia. Even if it’s not worth shooting, shoot it on medium format Velvia...

Some awesome photos I found on flickr... →
Go, have a look. It’s been a while since I went back through everything I’ve faved and pulled together a bunch into a flickr ‘gallery’, so here’s a collection linked only by being shot on film.

Two kinds of photos...
I’m increasingly coming to think that there are only really two kinds of photos: Ones where you want everything in the frame to be sharp and in focus. Ones where you want only one thing to be in focus, and everything else to be as out-of-focus as possible. Anything between just looks like you couldn’t afford a decent lens ;-) Here’s one of the second kind.

Top marks...
…once again to The Darkroom - I posted 4 rolls of E6 slide film to them on Monday afternoon, and this morning (Wednesday), at 8am the postman brought a brown paper envelope containing 104 frames of Velvia loveliness. Total cost: £20 (well, plus the film, which was going cheap on 7dayshop). Time to get the scanner warmed up… I do still use Photographique in Bristol for C41 processing,...
